The City Council of Topeka, Ohio,
chose not to consider a proposed ban on
public nudity after a council member reported
complaints from constituents about a theatrical
play promoting naturism.
The ordinance brought forward by council
member Brett Blackburn failed to receive
a single vote in its favor. It was the
result of concerns about the nudity in
plays performed by the
Lake Edun Foundation at the Topeka
Performing arts centre. The event promised
"No sex, no violence, only nudity."
It was the first time in three decades
that a play featuring nudity was performed
in the town.
The Lake Edun Foundation advertised the
naturist show as suitable for all ages,
but required those under eighteen to have
parental accompaniment. "Edun"
is "Nude" spelled backwards.
The foundation apparently decided Lake
"Lanoitpo Gnihtolc" just doesn't
have the same ring to it.
Florida State law and city ordinance
prohibit sexual acts in public, but does
not cover the act of public nudity.
Lake Edun plans on performing more plays
in the erutuf.
