Unless
you own a helicopter,
you have to take the
ferry over. Don't
take the wrong one!
You do NOT want the
"Centre Island
Ferry" You want
the one called (you
guessed it) "Hanlan's
Point"

| There
isn't one, but we'd like to
acknowledge the folks at TNT
MEN who worked hard to
make Hanlan's Point an officially-sanctioned,
legal nude beach.

General
Info: |
Located
right smack in the middle of the
largest city in Canada, this is
one of two officially-sanctioned
nude beaches in the country. Toronto
has something of a bad reputation
for crappy beaches. By "crappy,"
we mean high e-coli bacteria, which
comes from fecal matter.
Ewwwwww!
That
said, Hanlan's Point is in no way
a crappy beach. The people are friendly,
the view is pretty, and more importantly,
you can swim here safely. The Denmark-based
Foundation for Environmental Education
gives Hanlan's Point its Blue Flag
seal of approval, a designation
not enjoyed by the majority of the
city's beaches. You'll see the flag
and a regularly updated board with
e-coli levels by the life guard
station. There are nearby showers,
washrooms, a beach volleyball area,
and a sumer time lifeguard on duty
from about 11 am through to 4 pm.

Directions: |
|
This beach is located on an island,
so you might as well leave the car
at home. Take the subway to Union
Station, then the LRT one stop to
Queen's Quay terminal. Walk past the
Harbour Castle hotel to the ferry
docks. On a hot day, line ups can
be huge, but you'll find you can strut
on past them... most of the people
are lining up for the main Centre
Island Ferry. You want to go to the
Hanlan's Point dock to your far left.
When you arrive on the island, walk
past the cafe path which runs alongside
the water. Keep walking till you see
the swing set. Turn right and look
up... way up. The sign indicating
the way to the naturist beach was
apparently put up by a nine-foot tall
guiy standing on a steplader. Follow
the sign to the beach. Enjoy your
day!
